Fawzia Abagnamah Yakubu declares bid for second term as NDC Upper East Women’s Organizer

The Upper East Regional Women’s Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Madam Fawzia Abagnamah Yakubu, has officially declared her intention to seek another term in office.

In a declaration of intent, Madam Abagnamah expressed gratitude for the confidence and trust placed in her and pledged to renew her commitment to the women and grassroots of the party across the Upper East Region.

“With gratitude for the trust placed in me and a renewed commitment to the women and grassroots of our great party, I humbly declare my intention to seek another term as Upper East Regional Women’s Organizer,” she stated.

She said her next term would focus on consolidating gains made so far, strengthening the women’s wing and building a more united party capable of securing victory.

Her declaration comes against the backdrop of activities she has undertaken during her tenure, particularly initiatives aimed at women’s empowerment and grassroots engagement.

In November 2024, Madam Abagnamah led a training programme that equipped 50 women in the Bolgatanga East Constituency with soap-making skills as part of efforts to promote economic empowerment and self-reliance among women.

She has also publicly championed the participation of women in leadership. In May 2026, she urged young women to pursue leadership positions despite the challenges associated with politics and public service, stressing the need for courage, resilience, confidence and determination.

Her advocacy for women’s advancement has been a recurring feature of her political work. In a 2024 interview with A1 Radio, she said her involvement in politics was driven by a desire to help women realise their potential and succeed.

Madam Abagnamah also has a record of grassroots interventions beyond party mobilisation. In March 2026, she donated 200 sets of school furniture to Kologo Primary School in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality to help address the school’s furniture shortage.

Her tenure has also included mobilisation of the NDC women’s wing. In 2023, she inaugurated regional women’s working committees tasked with supporting the coordination of constituency women’s organisers and strengthening the party’s grassroots mobilisation efforts.

Madam Abagnamah first secured the position during the NDC’s regional elections in 2022, defeating Rahinatu Haruna by 28 votes to 17.

Declaring her intention to continue, she said she was seeking another mandate to deepen the work already undertaken and further strengthen the women’s front.
