The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has opened an investigation into an alleged extortion incident involving a Customs officer stationed at the Accra International Airport (AIA).
The move follows a social media video in which TikToker Lady Rev. Adwoa Pretty alleged that the officer collected GH¢600 from her without providing an official receipt.
In the video, she questioned the circumstances surrounding the payment and raised concerns about the conduct of the officer involved.
The allegations generated reactions on social media, prompting the GRA to issue a statement confirming that it was looking into the matter.
In a circular, the Authority said it had taken note of the video and the allegations made by the TikToker.
“The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has taken note of a video circulating on social media by a TikToker called Lady Rev. Adwoa Pretty. In the video, she alleges that a Customs Officer stationed at the Accra International Airport collected GH¢600 from her without issuing a receipt.”
The GRA said its investigation would establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged payment and assured the public that the findings would be communicated once the process was completed.
“The GRA wishes to assure the public that the Authority has commenced investigation into the matter and will update the general public on the findings when completed.”
The Authority did not identify the Customs officer allegedly involved and did not disclose further details about the incident.
It, however, reiterated that its operations are guided by standards of integrity, accountability and professionalism and said it was committed to ensuring that its officers upheld those principles.
“The GRA remains committed to upholding integrity, accountability, and professionalism in the discharge of its mandate.”
