The Omanhene of the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Area, Obrempong Nyanful Krampah XI, has proposed that government consider recruiting unemployed youth into the various security services and equipping them with practical skills to generate income for national development.
According to him, many young people possess natural talents that can be refined through training in fields such as masonry, carpentry, engineering and other vocational areas. He noted that, similar to the era of the Public Works Department (PWD), such trained personnel could be hired by companies and individuals to execute projects at a cost.
“Ghana is a developing country that needs its manpower resources to drive its development agenda. Unfortunately, we use taxpayers’ money to train professionals only for them to travel abroad and work for countries that are already developed.
“Our children enjoy free education from basic school to the university at the expense of the Ghanaian taxpayer, yet many become professionals and leave the country without contributing anything to the nation that is struggling to develop,” Obrempong stated.
He explained that if unemployed youth were given structured skills training, they could be booked by institutions and individuals for paid work, with the revenue channelled into the consolidated fund to support national development.
Obrempong Nyanful Krampah XI made these remarks during the Annual Purification of the Black Stool (Eguantodo) of the Krampah Twidan Royal Family at Gomoa Ajumako.
He expressed optimism that implementing such measures would boost national revenue, accelerate development across various sectors, and significantly reduce unemployment.
The Paramount Queen Mother of the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Area, Obaapayin Efua Obontsi Krampah I, also appealed to government agencies—particularly the District Assemblies in Gomoa East, Gomoa Central and Gomoa West—to prioritise the provision of decent classroom blocks with modern facilities to attract school‑going children.
She expressed concern about the poor state of some classroom structures, noting that such conditions discourage children from attending school.
“If we want to produce quality education and improve standards, then we must provide standard educational infrastructure,” Obaapayin Efua Obontsi Krampah I emphasised.
