Sammy Crabbe, a contender for the National Chairmanship of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has clarified that his last‑minute alliance with fellow aspirant John Boadu does not amount to a withdrawal from the race.
Crabbe said his name and photograph remain on the ballot for the party’s national elections, stressing that delegates can still vote for him even though he is urging his supporters to back Boadu as part of their newly formed alliance.
He explained that the partnership followed several days of discussions on how both camps could combine their strengths and harmonise their political programmes.
“For a while, we have been having discussions. And John and I, we are friends. And so a couple of days ago, we said, look, can we sit down and look at how best we can leverage our strengths? So kind of pool resources, and then go get a thing,” Crabbe said.
He said the decision was reached after consultations with his campaign team, culminating in a final meeting on Saturday, October 3, where the terms of the alliance were agreed and signed.
Crabbe emphasised that the arrangement should not be interpreted as a formal withdrawal.
“No. So my name is still on. My picture is still on. You can go and still vote for me,” he said.
Asked whether he was therefore telling his supporters not to vote for him, Crabbe said voting for Boadu would effectively advance the programmes he campaigned on.
“I’m telling them that if they vote for John, they’ll be voting for the programmes I came around with. We are in an alliance,” he said.
He added that the timing of the agreement made it impossible to remove his name and photograph from the ballot.
“At the time that we were sitting down, we were finalizing; it was too late to say, I withdraw, so don’t put my name and face on the ballot. It was too late. So we needed to describe what we’re doing,” he said.
Under the alliance, Crabbe said Boadu would lead the party as national chairman while incorporating and supporting the programmes agreed between the two camps.
“Truly, we’re creating an alliance. An alliance where when he goes in there, everybody knows that I come along with him and then I will be supporting him,” he said.
He noted that the agreement was crucial to ensure that the commitments he presented during his campaign are reflected in the party’s work should Boadu win.
The NPP holds its national elections on Saturday, October 3, 2026, with delegates voting to elect new national officers.
