Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo‑Addo has urged delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to set aside sectional interests and unite behind efforts to rebuild the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Addressing delegates at the NPP’s 2026 National Delegates Conference on Saturday, October 3, he said the election of new national officers marked a crucial step in reorganising the party and preparing it for the next electoral contest.
According to him, the task ahead requires unity and a leadership capable of restoring the party’s fortunes from the polling station level to the national stage.
“Guided by the theme, ‘One Party, One Purpose, United for Victory,’ delegates will rise above sectional interests and elect leadership capable of uniting our ranks and rebuilding our fortunes at every level from the polling station to the presidency,” he said.
Akufo‑Addo stressed that rebuilding the NPP would be demanding and would require commitment, time, energy and loyalty from party members.
He expressed confidence that the party could return to government, drawing parallels with its electoral victories in 2000 and 2016.
“I believe, however, that with God’s guidance we will emerge victorious as we did in 2000 and 2016 and form a government under the leadership of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia that will promote the rule of law and the welfare of the ordinary people of Ghana,” he said.
Nana Akufo‑Addo reaffirmed his commitment to the NPP and wished delegates a successful conference as the party elects national officers to lead its organisational activities ahead of the 2028 elections.
