Former Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Crabbe, has withdrawn from the party’s National Chairmanship race and endorsed fellow aspirant John Boadu.
Mr Boadu announced the development in a social media post on Saturday, October 3.
Mr Crabbe was one of four aspirants who had been contesting the chairmanship position alongside Mr Boadu, former National Chairman Paul Afoko and former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko.
“Sammy Crabbe, an aspiring National Chairman of the NPP, has stepped down from the race and thrown his support behind John Boadu,” Mr Boadu said in the post.
“Let’s win together!” he added.
The withdrawal changes the chairmanship contest on the day delegates are voting to elect the party’s national executives.
The four candidates had earlier been assigned positions on the ballot, with Mr Boadu picking the first position, Mr Crabbe second, Mr Afoko third and Mr Agyarko fourth.
The NPP’s national officers’ elections are being held as part of the party’s National Delegates Congress at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
A total of 7,163 delegates are participating in the elections, which cover nine national executive positions.
The positions include National Chairperson, Vice-Chairpersons, General Secretary, National Organiser, National Women’s Organiser, National Youth Organiser, National Nasara Organiser, National Treasurer and National Communications Director.
The Electoral Commission is supervising the polls, with voting taking place across 31 polling stations.
