The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers in connection with the abduction of a man at Dobini Bunban near Yendi in the Northern Region.
The suspects have been identified as 32-year-old Mahumudu Abdulai, 32-year-old Ganiu Sumaila and 28-year-old Abdulai Salam.
They were arrested at different locations in Sang in the Mion District on September 29, following the abduction of Ayuba Sumiya Mawudu, alias Haruna, on September 25.
According to the Police, the victim and his brother were attacked by four armed men at their residence before the kidnappers contacted his family and demanded GH¢100,000 for his release.
“The victim managed to escape from his captors and was taken to a clinic in Sambu for medical attention,” the Police said in a statement shared on social media on Thursday, October 1.
The Police subsequently proceeded to the facility and engaged the victim, who disclosed that he had been taken to an undisclosed location and kept under guard by armed men.
He told investigators that he eventually escaped and was assisted to safety by some farmers in Sambu.
The victim later identified all three arrested suspects from their photographs, according to the Police.
“Further investigations indicate that the suspects are connected to other robbery incidents in the area,” the statement added.
The three suspects are currently in Police custody assisting with investigations.
The Police said efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining accomplices and establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
