Construction works on the Accra–Kumasi Bypass Project have resumed in full, with all contractors returning to their respective sites following renewed government commitment to the key road infrastructure initiative.

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Agbodza, gave the assurance during an inspection tour of the project sites, where he reiterated the government's determination to complete all sections of the bypasses by the end of 2027.

“This road project will be completed, just like our other priority projects. This is also a priority project for government,” he stated.

According to him, the bypass project, which is expected to ease congestion and improve travel along the busy Accra–Kumasi corridor, has recorded varying levels of progress across its different sections.

Current completion rates stand at 77 per cent for the Osino South Bound section and 70 per cent for the Osino North Bound section. The Anyinam South Bound section has reached 74.6 per cent completion, while the Anyinam North Bound section is nearly complete at 99 per cent.

Work on the Enyiresi bypass has achieved 65 per cent completion on the southbound carriageway and 64 per cent on the northbound section. At Konongo, progress stands at 74 per cent for the southbound lane and 60 per cent for the northbound lane.

Meanwhile, rehabilitation works on the existing Accra–Kumasi Highway are also underway. He said contractors have begun sectional maintenance on heavily deteriorated portions of the road, which will later be followed by an asphalt overlay across the entire corridor.

Mr Agbodza appealed to motorists to exercise patience and caution while construction activities continue, noting the importance of road safety.

“All drivers on the existing Accra–Kumasi Highway, please exercise patience. We need you alive. Let us not use haste, overspeeding, and wrong manoeuvres to lose any life. We are going to complete this project and create more capacity so that you can drive at a more consistent speed between Accra and Kumasi,” he said.

Contractors working on the project expressed confidence in meeting the construction schedule and pledged to complete the remaining works within the stipulated timeframe.
