The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has taken Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah to his former law firm to inspect the premises and gather evidence for an ongoing investigation.

Investigators are then expected to take him to his home for a similar search.

Mr Baffour Awuah reported to EOCO on Thursday, October 1, 2026, with his lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea. He went a day after the Accra High Court issued a warrant for his arrest and authorised EOCO to search for and seize documents relevant to the case.

In its application, EOCO told the court it had exhausted all reasonable efforts to get the MP to appear voluntarily. It also said it feared that key documents could be hidden, altered or destroyed. The warrant came after an attempt to arrest the MP at the Accra High Court on September 23.

EOCO says it invited Mr Baffour Awuah twice in February 2026 and that he did not respond to either invitation. The MP disputes this.

He says the invitations concerned his former law firm, Sarkodie, Baffour Awuah & Partners, which had represented SIC Life Savings & Loans. He says he referred the matter to the Clerk to Parliament, and a representative of the firm then appeared before EOCO on March 4, March 18 and April 30.

According to the MP, the representative gave investigators the information they asked for, including a written statement.

The investigation concerns alleged unauthorised financial transactions at SIC Life Savings & Loans Company Limited. Authorities have linked the case to suspected financial loss, misuse of public funds and money laundering. These allegations are still under investigation.

The searches at the law firm and the MP's residence are part of EOCO's continuing inquiry following the arrest warrant.
