Sacking Carlos Queiroz: Incompetent GFA is Simply Shifting the Blame

The Ghana Football Association has done it again. The easiest tricks in their book, when the team fails, sack the coach and pretend the problem is solved. Now it is Carlos Queiroz, the GFA wants us to believe that Queiroz is the reason the Black Stars are in shambles. That is a lie. An incompetent GFA is simply shifting the blame.

Let us be clear, Carlos Queiroz is not a perfect coach, but he is not the problem. This is a man who has coached at the World Cup, managed Real Madrid, Manchester United as assistant, Portugal, Iran, Egypt. His CV is bigger than the entire GFA administration combined. You do not suddenly become a bad coach when you arrive in Ghana. The system makes you look bad.

What did Queiroz have to work with? A disorganized football association that cannot organize a simple friendly match on time. A local league that is less attractive and can barely boast of a single player capable of attracting fans to the stadium. A youth system that has collapsed, players who are invited to camp 48 hours before a crucial qualifier. No proper technical plan, no scouting department, no sports science. Nothing is effective under the current FA.

And when results go bad, the GFA runs to the media and says "the coach has failed to meet targets." What targets? Did the GFA meet its own targets? Did they provide the conditions that modern football demands?

The incompetence of the GFA is well documented:

1. They interfere with selection, and then blame the coach for results. Everyone in Ghana football knows that some player call-ups are not technical decisions. They are management decisions. Then when those players underperform, they say the coach picked the wrong team.

2. They owe everyone, yet demand professionalism. How do you demand 100% from a coach when bonuses are unpaid, when flights are booked late, when training pitches are not ready?

3. They have no long-term plan. Every new GFA administration comes with its own foreign coach to justify travel and big contracts. Queiroz was never part of a five-year plan. He was brought in as a PR stunt, a big name to quiet the noise after series of poor and embarrassing performances. Now that the noise is back, they want to use his sacking as another PR stunt.

Sacking Queiroz will change nothing. They have sacked Rajevac, sacked Hughton, sacked Addo in his first spell, and sacked Akonnor. Each time, the GFA said "we are rebuilding." How many rebuildings can one national team have in five years?

The real rebuilding must start from the GFA itself. The administration needs to look in the mirror. How can you manage the Black Stars brand so poorly that no serious sponsor wants to associate with it? How can you supervise a league where referees are assaulted and clubs withdraw from competitions?

Carlos Queiroz will leave Ghana a richer man, and will go and get another national team job in two months. Ghana will remain here, with the same incompetent leadership, searching for its next scapegoat.

Do not be fooled. The sacking of Carlos Queiroz is not accountability; it is the GFA shifting the blame to cover its own incompetence.
