Ghana, Saudi Arabia explore investment in railway, energy infrastructure

Ghana and Saudi Arabia have discussed opportunities for increased Saudi investment in Ghana’s railway development and energy infrastructure.

The discussions took place during a bilateral meeting between Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and his Saudi Arabian counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, in New York last week.

The meeting focused on strengthening relations between the two countries and advancing cooperation in areas considered important to Ghana’s infrastructure and economic development.

The two ministers also agreed to deepen cooperation on continental priority issues as Ghana prepares to assume the chairmanship of the African Union.

“The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto held a bilateral meeting last week in New York with the esteemed Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, His Excellency Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, focused on advancing the impressive relations between their two countries, particularly in the areas of railway development and energy infrastructure,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a social media post on Wednesday, September 30.

The Ministry said Ghana and Saudi Arabia would intensify high-level engagements to facilitate increased investments and support President John Dramani Mahama’s Reset Agenda.

The engagements are expected to focus on identifying areas where Saudi investment and partnerships can contribute to Ghana’s infrastructure development and broader economic transformation.

“Ghana and Saudi Arabia will accelerate high-level engagements towards increasing investments and supporting His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama’s transformative Reset Agenda,” the Ministry added.

The two countries also intend to forge closer ties on issues of continental importance as Ghana prepares to take over the African Union chairmanship.
