“Disband Black Stars, sack FA and let FIFA ban us for two years” – Sam George after humiliating defeat to Gambia

Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations and Ningo-Prampram MP, Samuel Nartey George, has called for a complete overhaul of Ghana’s senior national football team following the Black Stars’ 4-2 defeat to The Gambia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Sam George made the comments in a post on X on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, shortly after Ghana surrendered a two-goal lead to suffer a second consecutive defeat in the qualifying campaign.

In the post, he maintained that his position on the Black Stars had not changed and called for the team to be disbanded and the leadership of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) removed.

He wrote:

“As for the Black Stars, my position before is my position today. Disband the team. Sack the FA. Let FIFA ban us for 2 years. Take the time to properly rebuild the team. Truth hurts but the patch work is worse. Cheers.” 🦁🇬🇭

The statement came after what was a dramatic night at the Accra Sports Stadium. Ghana raced into a 2-0 lead through Ernest Nuamah and Felix Afena-Gyan, but The Gambia fought back to equalise and completed the comeback in the second half for a 4-2 victory.

The defeat leaves Ghana without a point from their opening two Group C matches. The Black Stars had previously suffered a 2-0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire in their opening qualifier.
