Kwesi Pratt Jnr: NDC Officials Are Focused on Succession, Not Mahama's Reset Agenda ‎

Veteran journalist and political commentator Kwesi Pratt Jnr has accused some officials in Ghana's governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) of concentrating on who will succeed President John Mahama rather than on delivering his reset agenda. Pratt made the remarks in a TikTok video shared by political commentator Baba Amando.

He claimed Mahama is being undermined by people within his own government who are more focused on succession battles than on helping him deliver on his promises to Ghanaians. Pratt said he felt sad for the president, describing the betrayal as "monumental."

"Reset" and the appointees
According to Pratt, Mahama entered office with a clear vision to reform key sectors of the economy under his reset agenda.

He alleged that many appointees who were brought in to help realise it have shifted to political ambition and internal positioning. He argued that the president has struggled to assert authority over people openly engaging in premature political manoeuvring.

Pratt also pointed to NDC social media platforms, where he said conversations about governance and policy, such as the 24-hour economy, have been overshadowed by succession politics.

A repeated warning
Pratt returned to the theme in August. On Metro TV's Good Morning Ghana on August 12, he cautioned the NDC against assuming it will automatically win the 2028 elections, calling that belief "faulty" and "amateurish."

He expressed concern about early presidential ambitions among some government officials and urged Mahama to ensure discipline in his administration so it can concentrate on its development agenda.

Background
Mahama has said he is not a candidate in the next election. He made the point in December 2025 while pledging fiscal discipline, and reaffirmed his commitment to Ghana's two-term presidential limit. Pratt has also warned that any third-term push would benefit the opposition NPP. I found no official NDC response to Pratt's latest remarks.
