Former Sissala East MP donates 1,450 exercise books to eight schools

Former Member of Parliament for Sissala East and former Deputy Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Hon. Amidu Chinnia Issahaku, has donated 1,450 exercise books to eight basic schools in the Sissala East Municipality to support teaching and learning.

The beneficiary schools include Falahia Basic School, Girls Model School, Nabugubelle A and B Basic Schools, Bakwala Basic School, Pina Basic School and Kuoroboi Basic School.

Presenting the exercise books to the Sissala East Municipal Education Office, Hon. Amidu Chinnia Issahaku said education was the foundation of development and urged stakeholders to work hard to provide children with quality education.

“Education is the foundation to our development. Every resource that we have must be exploited through our human resources. As a people, we have to work very hard to give our children very good education,” he said.

He noted that children who receive quality education would grow into responsible adults capable of contributing positively to the growth and development of the country.

Hon. Amidu Chinnia Issahaku said the donation was his way of showing gratitude to the people of Sissala East for the honour they had accorded him during his tenure as Member of Parliament.

He explained that 1,150 exercise books were being presented for distribution to six selected schools, with Girls Model School, Kuoroboi Basic School and Nabugubelle A and B Basic Schools each receiving 200 books, while Pina Basic School would receive 150.

He added that he had earlier donated 200 exercise books to Falahia Basic School and 100 books to Bakwala Basic School, bringing the total donation to 1,450 exercise books.

As a teacher who had worked closely with the Education Directorate, Hon. Amidu Chinnia Issahaku said he was familiar with some of the challenges confronting teachers, pupils and parents.

He assured the schools and the Education Directorate of his continued support towards education in the municipality.

“I assure you that from time to time, I will be mobilizing resources to support education. As a teacher myself, I understand the challenges teachers and children face in school. When we have the ability, we certainly have to help,” he said.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the Municipal Education Director, Hon. Godfred Baveru Kanton described the exercise books as critical materials that would support the learning of pupils.

He commended the former legislator for his thoughtfulness and commitment to the development of education even after leaving Parliament.

Hon. Kanton said children were the future of the country and therefore efforts aimed at building their capacity deserved recognition and support.

The Headmistress of the Girls Model School, Madam Akirigu Martha, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiary schools, thanked the former MP for his continued support and generosity.

She said Hon. Amidu Chinnia Issahaku had been a frequent visitor to the school and had supported it on several occasions.

“This is not the first time he has visited us. He has visited about three times, giving us books, marker boards and markers. So, I am not surprised that this donation has come at the right time because this is the academic year and parents are already burdened with the many things they have to buy for their children to go to school,” she said
