New 24-Hour Market to boost trade and jobs in Weija-Gbawe — Rita Naa Odoley Sowah

A new 24-hour market complex is set to be constructed in the Weija-Gbawe Municipality as part of efforts to expand local economic opportunities, improve trading conditions and create jobs for residents.

The project is expected to provide traders with a modern and well-organised trading environment while supporting increased commercial activity across communities within the Municipality.

The Deputy Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, joined the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Weija-Gbawe, Felix Odartey Lamptey, and traditional leaders for a sod-cutting ceremony to officially mark the commencement of the project.

Speaking at the ceremony, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah said the project aligns with the government’s commitment to improving local economic infrastructure and advancing the 24-hour economy agenda at the district level.

She noted that the market will not only provide a place to trade but will create opportunities for our people to work and earn income around the clock.

Madam Sowah urged the contractor to prioritise quality and durability throughout the construction process, stressing the need for the facility to serve residents effectively over the long term, and appealed to residents, particularly the youth, to support the project by protecting construction materials, equipment and other facilities at the site.

The new market forms part of broader efforts to strengthen local economic infrastructure and provide traders and residents with improved facilities that can support livelihoods and stimulate economic activity in the Municipality.

Felix Odartey Lamptey, MCE for Weija-Gbawe, expressed appreciation to the government and the Ministry for supporting the Municipality’s development agenda, saying the market will transform trading and enhance revenue mobilisation for the Assembly.
