The political atmosphere in Ghana has changed dramatically, and one reality has become impossible to ignore: Ghanaians are no longer willing to tolerate widespread corruption, the Agyapadie policy of government, state looting, money laundering, and the reckless mismanagement that pushed national institutions into bankruptcy.

The anger in the country today is not ordinary political dissatisfaction; it is deep, collective frustration built over eight years of economic collapse and leadership failure. At the center of this storm stands Ken Ofori‑Atta, the former Finance Minister whose policies and decisions contributed significantly to Ghana’s financial crisis.

His sudden escape to the United States after being invited by the Office of the Special Prosecutor has left many Ghanaians convinced that he fled to avoid accountability. The fact that he remains abroad, untouched by the consequences of his actions, has become a symbol of impunity within the political establishment.

For many citizens, Ofori‑Atta’s return to Ghana is not just a legal matter; it has become a moral and political test. The public believes that any political party serious about leadership must demonstrate accountability, and that begins with ensuring that individuals accused of wrongdoing face justice.

This is why some Ghanaians argue that the only thing that could improve the NPP’s public image before 2028 is to bring Ofori‑Atta back to Ghana to answer for his actions. However, the question remains: Will the NPP ever do it?

Even if a prophet as powerful as Elijah were to stand before the party and declare that recalling Ofori‑Atta is the only path to redemption, the likelihood of the NPP obeying such a prophecy is extremely slim. The political cost, the internal fear, and the potential legal consequences make the idea almost unimaginable.

That is why many Ghanaians say it would be easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for the NPP to bring Ofori‑Atta back to face accountability or to win the 2028 election. The party’s silence on the matter speaks volumes.

Instead of addressing the concerns of Ghanaians, some voices within the NPP continue to deny responsibility, deflect blame, or portray themselves as victims of political intimidation, but the public is no longer moved by such narratives. Ghanaians have reached a point where accountability is non‑negotiable, and any political party that refuses to confront its own failures will struggle to regain public trust.

The truth is simple: recalling Ofori‑Atta would require the NPP to admit wrongdoing, confront internal corruption, and expose the very system that protected him. That level of honesty and transparency is something the party has never demonstrated, and there is no indication that it is ready to do so now.

As Ghana moves toward 2028, one thing is clear: the demand for accountability will only grow stronger. Whether the NPP is prepared to face that reality remains uncertain, but what is undeniable is that Ghanaians are watching closely, and they will judge leadership not by promises, but by actions.

In the end, the question is not whether prophecy can guide the NPP. The real question is whether the party is ready to confront the truth, return Ofori‑Atta to Ghana, and finally show the nation that accountability matters. Until then, the mission remains impossible.
