NACOC arrests three members of ‘Bolle Jos’ Network over French cocaine seizure

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has taken three people into custody over their alleged connections to the ‘Bolle Jos’ cocaine trafficking network.

The arrests follow the seizure of a cocaine consignment by French customs authorities. NACOC said the suspects are assisting investigators as efforts continue to establish their alleged involvement in the reported trafficking operation.

According to the Commission, the latest arrests form part of a broader investigation into the network and the circumstances surrounding the intercepted shipment.

NACOC said it remains determined to prevent Ghana from being used as a safe haven, transit route or operational centre for organised drug trafficking. It also assured that the rights and legal protections of the suspects would be respected throughout the investigation.

The development comes as concerns grow over Ghana’s alleged links to international narcotics trafficking, following a number of major drug seizures involving consignments connected to the country.

The Minority in Parliament has consequently demanded an independent parliamentary inquiry into what it describes as Ghana’s increasing role as a narcotics transit hub under the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.

In a statement dated September 13 and signed by the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, the Minority pointed to the seizure of cocaine worth more than $260 million by French authorities. The consignment was reportedly concealed in a container carrying plastic waste.

Rev. Ntim Fordjour also cited other high-profile narcotics cases, arguing that they raised concerns about weaknesses in drug enforcement, port security and institutional supervision.

NACOC, meanwhile, said it would continue cooperating with local and international law-enforcement agencies to dismantle the individuals, financial networks and logistical structures supporting the illegal drug trade.
