Happy Ayaba brings women’s voice to NDC Upper East Deputy Youth Organizer race

Happy Ayaba has announced her intention to contest the position of Deputy Upper East Regional Youth Organizer, positioning herself as a woman seeking to make her mark in a leadership space traditionally dominated by men.

Ms. Ayaba says her decision is driven by a conviction that she has more to contribute and is prepared to take on greater responsibility within the youth wing.

She brings to the contest experience from various leadership platforms, including her time as Vice President of the Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) at the University of Education, Winneba-Kumasi Campus (UEW-K).

She currently serves as the Young Women’s Coordinator of the Regional Women’s Wing Working Committee and is also the Deputy Research Director of the Ashanti Regional Youth Working Committee.

According to her, these experiences have exposed her to different dimensions of leadership and strengthened her understanding of what young people need from their leaders.

She believes the youth require leadership that is accessible, purposeful and innovative, with leaders willing to work beyond their comfort zones to create opportunities and address the concerns of young people.

Ms. Ayaba says she is therefore offering herself for the Deputy Regional Youth Organizer position because she wants to contribute to changing the narrative around youth leadership while helping to build a more united, active and impactful Youth Wing.

Beyond her leadership experience, she considers her decision to contest particularly significant as a young woman entering a position that has largely been occupied by men.

She argues that women should not limit their aspirations to positions traditionally associated with them but should be encouraged to compete for broader leadership positions and earn the confidence of their colleagues through competence, commitment and service.

“For me, it is not about the title or gender,” she said in outlining her motivation. “It is about the desire to serve and make a meaningful difference.”

Ms. Ayaba believes her candidacy offers an opportunity for a broader perspective and a different approach to youth leadership in the Upper East Region.

She is consequently seeking the support and confidence of delegates as she offers herself for what she describes as a greater responsibility to serve young people and contribute to the growth and unity of the Youth Wing.
