FRI, 11 SEP 2026

Seven people have been killed and 21 others injured in a road crash on the Hwideim-Acherensua Highway in the Ahafo Region.

The accident occurred on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, and involved a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter bus with registration number GT-9931-09 and a Kia Picanto registered BA-731-20.

Preliminary findings by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) indicate that the Sprinter bus was involved in a tyre burst while travelling on the highway, causing the driver to lose control.

The bus reportedly somersaulted before crashing into the Kia Picanto.

Firefighters from the Hwideim District Fire Station were dispatched to the scene and rescued victims trapped or affected by the collision.

The 21 injured persons were subsequently conveyed to St Elizabeth Hospital in Hwideim for medical treatment.

The Ahafo Regional Commander of the GNFS, ACFO II Samuel Ferdie Tetteh, later visited the injured at the hospital and wished them a speedy recovery.

The GNFS has not yet released the identities of the 7 people who died or provided further information on the condition of the injured.
