Asogli State Council clarifies night rituals in Ho, says no restriction on movement

The Asogli State Council has clarified reports circulating on social media about traditional cleansing rituals scheduled to take place in Ho on the night of Friday, September 11, 2026.

In a statement issued under the authority of Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of Asogli, the Council said the traditional exercise will begin at 10:00 p.m. on Friday and continue until dawn on Saturday, September 12.

The Council said there is no restriction on movement in and out of Ho during the period, dismissing reports suggesting that members of the public would be barred from travelling to or remaining in the township.

It explained that the exercise is a traditional cleansing and purification rite being undertaken by the chiefs and elders of Ho following a recent series of road accidents in the township that has resulted in loss of lives and property.

The Council said the rituals are intended to cleanse the town while seeking spiritual protection, peace and the continued wellbeing of its people.

It stressed that the exercise has no connection with the ongoing annual Asogli Te Za celebrations and does not form part of the 2026 Te Za programme.

Accordingly, the Council said all activities scheduled for the 2026 Asogli Te Za would proceed as advertised.

The Council, however, appealed to residents, visitors and other members of the public to respect the solemnity and sanctity of the traditional exercise.

It urged churches and organisers of other activities to conclude their programmes by 9:30 p.m. on Friday. Pubs, drinking spots and other recreational centres have also been asked to close by the same time.

The Council has also released the route for the rituals, beginning from Ho-Hliha and passing through Ola Top, Scrap Road through Royal Hospital, Zongo, Ben Tota, Ho-Dome, Ho Kpodzi Junction, Ho-Ahoe Roundabout, Ho-Ahoe Public Toilet, Mawuli School Road, Ho-Heve and Mawuli School before ending at Power House.

The Asogli State Council urged the public to disregard misinformation and rely on official communications from the Asogli Traditional Council for accurate information concerning the exercise.
