Annoh-Dompreh challenges government to rescue stalled Nsawam Maternity Ward Project

Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has intensified calls for government intervention to ensure the timely completion of a maternity ward project at the Nsawam Government Hospital.

The MP made the call after inspecting the ongoing project alongside constituency executives and members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), expressing concern over what he described as the slow pace of construction.

The maternity ward project was initiated in 2021 with the objective of strengthening maternal healthcare services and providing improved facilities for pregnant women and families within the constituency.

However, Mr. Annoh-Dompreh said the project has encountered funding difficulties, particularly following the change of government in 2024, leaving the contractor unable to make the desired progress.

He has consequently appealed to the government to settle outstanding financial obligations to the contractor to pave the way for construction to resume at the needed pace.

According to the MP, the project must be treated as a development initiative for the people of Nsawam-Adoagyiri rather than a political project.

“This project is not for the NPP or any political party; it is for the people of Nsawam-Adoagyiri,” he stressed during his engagement with hospital management.

Mr. Annoh-Dompreh further emphasised that being in opposition should not prevent him from advocating for development in his constituency.

“I am in the minority, but I am not handicapped,” he declared, stressing that governance is a continuous process and that political transitions should not derail projects intended to benefit citizens.

He said he remains committed to seeing the maternity ward completed and indicated that he would seek additional support beyond the construction contract to provide beds and other essential equipment required to make the facility functional.

The MP maintained that completing the project would provide significant relief to pregnant women and families who depend on the Nsawam Government Hospital for maternal healthcare.

He therefore urged all relevant stakeholders to prioritise the project and work together to ensure its completion.

“We started it. We must complete it. Our mothers and families deserve nothing less,” Mr. Annoh-Dompreh affirmed.
