Administrator of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), Rashid Tanko-Computer, has credited President John Dramani Mahama’s return to power with preventing what he believes could have been a collapse of Ghana’s education system.

According to him, the difficulties confronting the education sector became increasingly apparent ahead of the 2024 general elections, particularly as parents complained about the prolonged periods their children were spending at home.

Mr Tanko-Computer said the situation affected families across the country, including his own, and argued that a change in government was necessary to reverse some of the challenges confronting the sector.

Speaking in an interview with TV3 Ghana on Tuesday, September 8, he said the education system could have faced even greater difficulties had the previous administration remained in office.

“Ghanaians should be grateful for voting President John Dramani Mahama back into office; otherwise, our educational system would have collapsed. Parents were talking about how long their children spend in the house, and I suffered the same thing.

“I had to find someone to teach my child in the house because they were always home for three months.

“When they rolled out the Free SHS, we told them about infrastructure. So when we introduced these e-blocks, they were meant to help bridge the gap in access, but they came and stopped them. They didn’t continue with the e-blocks for 8 years,” he stated.
