The Government will commence the construction of the Dunkwa-Ayanfuri road in 2027, Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has announced.

He said the project forms part of the Government's commitment to improving road infrastructure and facilitating economic activities in mining communities and other parts of the Central Region.

The Minister made the announcement during an engagement with officials of PMGL, who presented the Government with its ten per cent dividend from the company's operations.

The eight-kilometre road construction will be captured in the budget next year for its commencement.

Dr Forson said the construction of the road would help address longstanding transportation challenges in the area while improving the movement of people, goods and services between Dunkwa and Ayanfuri.

He noted that improved road infrastructure was critical to supporting economic growth, particularly in areas contributing significantly to the national economy through mining and other commercial activities.

The Minister commended PMGL for fulfilling its obligation to the State through the payment of the ten per cent dividend, describing the gesture as an important contribution towards national development.

He said Government would continue to ensure that revenues generated from the country's natural resources contributed meaningfully to the development of communities and the wider economy.

The Dunkwa-Ayanfuri road serves as an important link within the Central, Western and Ashanti Regions.

Residents and stakeholders have over the years, called for the rehabilitation or reconstruction of the road to improve safety and reduce the difficulties associated with travelling on the route.

The Minister assured stakeholders that Government remained committed to addressing infrastructure deficits and ensuring that road projects were undertaken to support economic development and improve the living conditions of Ghanaians.
