IGP promotes 7 policemen who arrested 5 suspects in connection with robbery and murder of gold dealer at Agona Nkwanta

Seven police officers who played key roles in the arrest of five suspects linked to the robbery and murder of a 40-year-old gold dealer at Agona Nkwanta in the Western Region have been promoted by the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

The promotion, which includes a senior police officer among the beneficiaries, is intended to recognise their work and strengthen leadership within the Ghana Police Service.

The officers were decorated at a ceremony held at the Police Headquarters in Accra on Thursday, September 3, 2026, led by the IGP, Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Director-General of the Legal and Prosecution Directorate, COP Joseph Oklu Gyamera, urged the promoted officers to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, discipline and integrity in the performance of their duties.

He stressed that their new ranks came with greater responsibilities, particularly at a time when expectations of the Police Service remained high in the areas of crime prevention, public safety and restoring public confidence.

COP Gyamera said the promotions were not only a reward for the officers’ performance but also formed part of efforts to strengthen the leadership structure of the Police Service.

He added that the move was consistent with ongoing reforms aimed at improving the operational effectiveness of the Service across the country.
