New Economy agenda will take Ghana beyond stabilisation — Dr Ato Forson

The Minister for Finance Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has said Ghana’s recent economic stabilisation should not be viewed as the ultimate goal of the government’s economic programme.

He said the country has now moved beyond the stabilisation phase and must focus on transforming the economy in ways that deliver tangible improvements in the lives of citizens.

Dr Ato Forson made the remarks in a social media post on Wednesday, September 2, after beginning engagements with the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry on the government’s “New Economy” agenda.

He said the next phase requires a deliberate focus on economic transformation and the creation of opportunities that can improve living standards on a wider scale.

“Stabilisation was never the destination. It was the price of entry. Ghana has paid that price," he wrote.

The Finance Minister said the government’s attention is now shifting towards the work required to transform the economy and ensure that the gains from stabilisation translate into meaningful outcomes for citizens.

He described this phase as the work that “changes lives at scale”, signalling a broader focus on structural transformation beyond restoring macroeconomic stability.
