"Hand over properly to new executives" - COKA urges former NPP constituency chairmen

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as COKA, has urged former constituency chairmen to ensure proper handovers to their successors to promote administrative continuity and strengthen the party’s grassroots structures.

He made the call when a delegation of former constituency chairmen paid a courtesy call on him to congratulate him and the newly elected Ashanti Regional Executive Committee.

Chairman Appiah stressed the importance of accountability, proper documentation and institutional memory as the party prepares to reposition itself ahead of the 2028 general elections.

He urged outgoing constituency executives to prepare comprehensive handover notes, account for party assets in their possession and provide details of unresolved issues together with recommendations for their successors.

Drawing on his own experience as a former constituency chairman, COKA said he ensured a detailed handover to his successor, including an inventory of party property under his care.

“As a former constituency chairman myself, I provided detailed handover notes to my successor, including a full inventory of party assets in my possession. This ensured the new chairman could step in and administer the office effectively from day one,” he stated.

The regional chairman also assured former executives of an inclusive administration, stressing that their experience remained important to the party’s efforts to rebuild its grassroots structures in the Ashanti Region.

He said the party could only mount an effective campaign for the 2028 elections if past and present leaders worked together and placed the collective interest of the NPP above individual differences.

As part of the proposed approach, he indicated that former officers could be integrated into strategic advisory and campaign roles to support grassroots mobilisation.

He also called for stronger communication between constituency and regional structures, better resourcing of local party offices and greater collaboration among party executives to improve voter engagement.

The courtesy meeting also attracted other party figures and affiliated groups who expressed their support for the new regional leadership.

A former Ashanti Regional Chairman, Mr F.F. Anto, commended COKA for what he described as his early leadership initiatives and encouraged him to maintain his focus on grassroots restructuring.

Nhyiaeso Constituency Chairman, Mr Owusu Bempah, pledged logistical support towards the completion of the party’s new regional secretariat donated by Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh.

He also committed the constituency to supporting the party’s campaign efforts ahead of the 2028 elections.

Meanwhile, a Kumasi-based Northern Diaspora Coalition, representing communities from the five northern regions, declared its support for the new regional leadership and pledged to assist in mobilising voter turnout for the NPP in future elections.

Chairman Appiah said the support and involvement of former executives, constituency structures and affiliated groups would be critical to rebuilding the party’s organisational strength and improving its electoral prospects in 2028.
