The Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North, Dr. Kwamena Minta Nyarku, in collaboration with a group of African American health professionals, has donated assorted medical supplies to the Kwawprow Health Centre in Cape Coast.
The items were presented to the facility during a brief ceremony held at the health centre on Saturday, August 22, 2026.
Dr. Nyarku, popularly known as Ragga, said he had been supporting the construction of a new health facility behind the existing centre. He explained that despite the ongoing construction, the current facility continued to require essential medical supplies, prompting him and his associates to provide assistance.
“When I realised the facility needed help, I spoke to Madam Serapher Halevi about it,” he said.
According to the MP, Madam Halevi and her colleagues, who are health professionals based in the United States, responded to the request by mobilising and donating the items to the facility.
The donation included pampers, sanitary pads, crutches, wheelchairs and other essential medical supplies.
Dr. Nyarku urged the management of the health centre to properly maintain the donated items to ensure that they serve patients for an extended period.
“Most times, it becomes very disturbing when you are told that donated items have spoilt within a short time. Please take good care of these items so that more people can benefit. We either buy these items ourselves or rely on others to donate them to you,” he said.
Health Centre Expresses Appreciation
Receiving the donation, the officer in charge of the facility, Physician Assistant Angel Agyapong, expressed appreciation to the chief and people of Kwawprow, particularly Dr. Nyarku, for his continued support for the health centre.
He noted that since the facility was upgraded from a Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound to a health centre, the MP had played an active role in efforts to provide it with a new and appropriate facility.
“I thank the people of Kwawprow and Dr. Minta Nyarku for his continuous support to this facility,” he said.
Mr. Agyapong also expressed gratitude to the African American philanthropists for supporting the facility through the MP.
He acknowledged the contribution of the Director of Health, Dr. Ofosu Samuel, for ensuring that the necessary items reached the facility.
Touching on the donation, Mr. Agyapong said the supplies had arrived at an important time, particularly as the number of patients visiting the facility continues to increase.
He also appealed to other individuals, organisations and philanthropists to support the completion of the new health facility.
US Health Professionals Support Ghana Facility
Speaking on behalf of the African American group, Madam Serapher Halevi said the decision to support the health centre followed discussions with Dr. Nyarku about the facility’s needs.
She explained that the group, made up of health professionals in the United States, mobilised resources to procure the medical supplies and shipped them to Ghana for presentation through the MP.
Madam Halevi expressed appreciation for the reception they received and said their visit was motivated by a desire to make a meaningful contribution to the lives of Ghanaians.
She stressed that their interest in Ghana went beyond visiting historical attractions and castles, saying they also wanted to use their resources and professional background to support communities in need.
