Asphalt-related works have commenced on the 34-kilometre Sunyani Outer Ring Road project being executed under the government’s “Big Push” road infrastructure programme.
The project, which is expected to improve connectivity and ease traffic congestion in Sunyani and surrounding communities, is progressing steadily, with preparatory works already underway on sections of the dual-carriage road.
A visit by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) to the project site showed workers spreading and levelling chippings along the Fiapre Roundabout stretch in preparation for subsequent road construction stages.
President John Dramani Mahama cut the sod for the project on December 21, 2025, as part of the government’s “Big Push” initiative aimed at accelerating infrastructure development and supporting economic activity.
Speaking to the GNA, Site Engineer for Kofi Job Company Limited, the contractor executing the project, Kofi Kamkam, expressed satisfaction with the progress of work and assured residents of a quality road.
He said the contractor was working towards completing the project before the end of the two-year contract period.
“You can now see for yourself the progress we are making in the chipping work. This is to pave the way for base work and combusting before we begin the actual asphalting works,” he explained.
Mr Kamkam commended residents, traditional authorities and other stakeholders in communities along the route for their cooperation since work began.
He also appealed to motorists and residents to exercise caution around construction areas and avoid activities that could disrupt or delay the works.
The project passes through communities including Fiapre, Nanketewa, Old Abesim, Old Odomase and New Odomase, and connects with the Sunyani-Berekum and Sunyani-Abesim highways.
When completed, the road is expected to enhance transportation and mobility while improving access to communities and supporting economic and social development within the Sunyani Municipality and adjoining areas.
