VISION IS THE BRIDGE: See Today What Others Will See Tomorrow

Inspired by Habakkuk 2:2-3/Martin Luther King Jr.

On 28^th August, 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his historic “I have a Dream” speech at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC. At that time, America looked nothing like his dream.

Today, millions are still inspired by that vision.

Ghana too was blessed with a visionary. Many of what we enjoy today are fruits of Nkrumah’s vision. The Akosombo Dam, the Tema Motorway, the Tema industrial Area, schools and universities – these are proof of what vision can do.

Question: What do you see that no one else sees yet?

WHAT VISION REALLY MEANS
Vision and wish mean different things. A wish says, “I hope”. Vision says, “I will build.” A wish says, “Walk”. Vision says, “run.”

Vision is the future pulled into the present: It helps us live our dream today. Vision gives pain a purpose: It gives us a reason to strive, toil, and to sweat in desperate effort to live the life we have envisioned.

Vision must be written: “Write the vision and make it plain”- Habakkuk 2: 2 If you don’t write it down, it will fizzle out of memory.

WHERE GHANA NEEDS VISION
The Youth: Where there is no vision, people drift. Where there is vision, people build. Unfortunately, many have energy but no vision to guide them. They chase trends, not calling.

Leadership: We need visionary leaders. Leaders who see 20 years ahead and work towards it. Leaders who put national interest above selfish interest.

Business: Too many cut corners. Too many copycats. Poor service. We need original builders who see gaps and fill them.

Education: Our institutions must churn out builders, not just consumers. Not teaching for certificates alone, but teaching to solve problems through science and technology.

Personal Life: Life must be purpose-driven. A life without vision is a life of reaction. You drift aimlessly on the currents of life. No achievement.

THE COST OF NO VISION
For the Individual: Drifting. Frustration. Stuck in a rut.

For the Family: Misuse of resources. No plan for the next generation. We consume everything and build nothing.

For the Nation: An import-driven economy. We import what we can produce here. We export raw materials and buy back finished products.

Spiritual: “Where there is no vision, the people perish.”- Prov. 29:18

HOW TO DEVELOP AND GUARD YOUR VISION

Pray and reflect: Vision is from God. Ask Him: “Why am I here? What should I do with my life?”

Write It Down: Once God drops a vision in your heart, write it, and make it plain. Articulate it. Share it. Put dates on it. Review it regularly. Fine-tune it.

Feed Your Vision: Read to grow. Talk to experts. Get a mentor. Vision grows with information.

Protect: No room for naysayers. Don’t let anyone dim your vision.

Work backwards: Manage your plan. What steps must I take to get there? Vision is the bridge that carries you from where you are to where you are meant to be.

CONCLUSION
Talent is your potential. Character is your fuel. Persistence is your stamina. But vision is your road map.

So today: Stop drifting on the currents of life. Start building. Write down your vision. See you at the top.
