Police restrict concrete mixer trucks on Accra, Tema roads from August 28

Ghana Police Service has directed owners and operators of concrete mixer trucks to keep the vehicles off roads in Accra and Tema from Friday, August 28 to Sunday, August 30, 2026.

The three-day restriction follows an engagement between the Police, under the auspices of the National Security Secretariat, and owners and operators of transit mixer trucks on Thursday, August 27.

The meeting, led by the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, focused on road safety concerns and compliance with traffic regulations by operators of concrete mixer trucks.

Among the concerns raised was the frequent spillage of concrete and other materials onto roads during transportation and operations.

According to the Police, such spillages obstruct traffic, pose risks to motorists and other road users, and contribute to the deterioration of road surfaces.

Operators were consequently urged to take steps to ensure that concrete and other materials are not discharged or left on public roads.

As part of the temporary directive, concrete mixer trucks will not be permitted to operate on roads within Accra and Tema throughout the three-day period.

The Police warned that any concrete mixer truck found on the roads in violation of the directive would face appropriate enforcement action in accordance with the law.

The restriction is intended to provide an opportunity for affected road surfaces to be cleared and cleaned of concrete and other materials.

Representatives from the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the Ghana Highways Authority, as well as owners and operators of concrete mixer trucks, participated in the engagement.
