A leading member of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s team, Hon. Anthony Abayifaa Karbo, has responded to Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams’ call for prayers for the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), saying faith and prayer should complement, rather than replace, effective governance and concrete action.
Archbishop Duncan-Williams recently called on Ghanaians to pray for GoldBod, citing concerns about challenges confronting the institution and what he described as powerful interests opposed to efforts to ensure that the right things are done.
Reacting to the call in a social media post, Mr Karbo acknowledged the importance of prayer and personal faith but stressed that they must go hand in hand with sound policies, institutional accountability and active civic participation.
“You have raised a critical point about governance,” Mr Karbo said.
He argued that a healthy democracy depends on transparent decision-making, evidence-based policies and public officials who remain accountable to the people they serve.
According to him, public confidence suffers when political rhetoric and expressions of concern are not matched by concrete measures to address national challenges.
“When rhetoric replaces action, trust erodes and real problems go unsolved,” he stated.
Mr Karbo consequently urged citizens to demand measurable results from public officials, safeguard the independence of state institutions and insist that public office holders remain accountable to the Constitution and the Ghanaian people.

You have raised a critical point about governance. While prayer or personal faith can offer comfort, they are not substitutes for sound policy, institutional accountability, or active civic engagement. A healthy democracy depends on transparent decision-making, evidence-based solutions, and leaders who answer to the people.. not just to their beliefs.
When rhetoric replaces action, trust erodes and real problems go unsolved. The remedy is to demand measurable results, protect institutional independence, and ensure that every public official remains accountable to the constitution and the citizens they serve.
