NPP Upper West regional elections disrupted as Nandom delegates interrupt voting

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Upper West Regional executive elections have been temporarily disrupted after some delegates from the Nandom Constituency interrupted the voting process at the Wa Technical Institute.

The incident occurred while voting was underway at the venue, where 260 delegates from the region’s 11 constituencies are expected to elect new regional executives.

The reason for the interruption was not immediately known, but the incident briefly disrupted what had otherwise been a calm and orderly election process.

Before the disruption, seven delegates had reportedly cast their ballots, according to the latest update from the polling centre.

The Electoral Commission is supervising the election, with 28 candidates competing for 11 executive positions. All the positions are being contested, with no candidate going unopposed.

The election is expected to determine the next leadership of the NPP in the Upper West Region as the party continues its internal reorganisation and efforts to strengthen its structures ahead of future elections.
