NPP I accept responsibility for NPP’s poor performance in Greater Accra Region – Outgoing Chairman
SAT, 15 AUG 2026

Outgoing Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Divine Otoo Agorhom, has accepted responsibility for the party’s poor electoral performance in the region.

The NPP’s parliamentary representation in Greater Accra dropped sharply from 21 seats in 2016 to just five after the 2024 general elections.

Mr Agorhom, who has served as the party’s regional chairman since 2018, made the admission during an interview with Citi News at the delegates’ congress to elect his successor.

While acknowledging that the government’s performance contributed significantly to the party’s defeat in the 2024 elections, he said he was prepared to take responsibility as the head of the party’s regional structure.

“I wouldn’t blame anyone who kind of lays the current situation at my doorstep. I would accept. I would accept for the reason that I’m the head of the party, so whatever happens, good or bad, you know, they will attribute it to you. That’s okay but in the real sense, it’s a kind of referendum on the performance of the government, and that is why we are in opposition,” he said.

Mr Agorhom also said his successor would face the difficult task of rebuilding and uniting the party in the region.

Despite the challenge, he expressed confidence that the NPP could restore unity and strengthen its support base, pointing to the turnout for the party’s recent “Democracy Under Attack” demonstration as evidence of its ability to mobilise members around a common cause.

He said the strong participation demonstrated that the party still had a committed support base that could be brought together under effective leadership.
