Hopeson Adorye eats humble pie, retracts claim linking Ekow Assafuah to Ghana Today

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate Hopeson Yaovi Adorye has retracted a social media publication linking Member of Parliament for Tafo, Ekow Vincent Assafuah, to the Ghana Today podcast.

The development follows a legal demand issued by Kulendi@Law, solicitors for Assafuah, which gave Adorye 48 hours to retract the claim and publish an unqualified apology.

The lawyers, led by Stephen Nsiah Opoku, said Assafuah had categorically denied owning, authoring, controlling or being involved in Ghana Today or the publication shared by Adorye.

In a demand notice issued on August 9, they cautioned that failure to comply with the demand would compel their client to pursue all appropriate legal remedies, including a possible claim for damages and other reliefs available under the law.

In a social media post on Monday, August 10, Hopeson Adorye said his post was made after Ghana Today Podcast, a platform he described as sympathetic to the NPP, had published similar images of him.

He noted that the lawmaker later contacted him personally and explained that although he had previously administered the Facebook page, he left it at the Ministry of Education under its original name, “Ministry of Education Ghana”, after leaving the ministry.

“Having considered his explanation, together with the advice I have received, I believe the fair and responsible course is to accept his clarification and bring the matter to a close,” Adorye said.

“To the extent that my earlier publication created the impression that Hon. Assafuah remained responsible for, controlled, or was personally connected with the subsequent use of that page, I retract that impression and apologise unreservedly to him for any embarrassment or inconvenience the publication may have caused,” he said.
