Former Works and Housing Minister Samuel Atta Akyea has described former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s decision not to reappoint him to his second-term administration as a “big disappointment.”

According to the former Akim Abuakwa South MP, he believes the decision was an error of judgment because of his loyalty, commitment and track record during Mr Akufo-Addo’s first term.

Speaking to Roselyn Felli on Raw Roselyn, Mr Atta Akyea said the former President was fully aware of his capabilities and the contribution he could have made had he been retained in government.

“It was the judgement of the president that the guy who succeeded him, the gentleman who worked in his law office and the man who he was praying that one day he should become the Okyehene, he decided that I should step aside,” he said.
He added: “It was a big disappointment. I also believe that it was an error of judgement because if you measure my commitment to the man and my proven record with him, he should have known that nobody can give him loyalty, the best output, commitment and he’s aware of these things and private things we’ve done together.”

Mr Atta Akyea, however, said he had accepted the decision and believed there could be opportunities beyond the Akufo-Addo administration.

“When one door is closed, many more are opened and God knows best. For all you know maybe I would have been in big trouble if I continued as a Minister,” he said.

He suggested that his political fortunes could perhaps lie with former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia rather than the Akufo-Addo administration.

“I believe whatever happened happened but we are soldiering on and in this game of politics you don’t know where you’ll function best. Maybe my fortunes are with Bawumia and not Akufo-Addo,” he stated.

There is a proverb in Ghana that says, "Only the devil can realize another devil." Akufo-Addo is corrupt to the flesh, but he knows that Atta Akyea is corrupt to the bone.
