Biakoye NADMO cautions residents over possible Bagre Dam spillage on August 11

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in the Biakoye District has cautioned residents, particularly those living along the Volta Lake and other low-lying areas, to remain vigilant following information that the Bagre Dam is expected to spill on August 11, 2026.

The District NADMO said the warning was precautionary and urged residents to take the necessary safety measures to protect lives and property, noting that the Tolon Dam had already been opened.

In a statement signed and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) by Mr Dauda Rashid, District NADMO Director, residents, especially fishermen, canoe operators, parents and children were advised to avoid unnecessary activities around the lake and other water bodies.

He urged residents not to swim, attempt to cross flooded waterways, or allow children to go near rising water levels.

Mr Rashid further advised residents to secure their canoes, fishing equipment, livestock and other valuables, while remaining prepared to relocate to higher and safer ground should water levels rise.

He called for calm, vigilance and cooperation with relevant authorities, stressing that the precautionary measures were intended to minimise the risk of loss of lives and property.
