Nitiwul urges Agalga to build consensus to succeed as Majority Leader

Former Defence Minister and Bimbila MP Dominic Nitiwul has advised newly appointed Majority Leader James Agalga to prioritise collaboration and consensus-building within the Majority leadership to ensure a successful tenure.

Mr Nitiwul cautioned that Mr Agalga could face challenges in managing government business in Parliament if he fails to secure the support of the Majority’s front bench.

Speaking on TV3’s The Key Points on Saturday, August 8, he stressed the importance of establishing strong working relationships with the Speaker, his deputies, other leaders of the Majority Caucus and the Minority.

According to him, Mr Agalga must demonstrate the leadership capacity required for the position while earning the confidence and cooperation of his colleagues.

Meanwhile, Majority Chief Whip Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has pledged his full support for Mr Agalga, describing him as his new leader.

Mr Dafeamekpor said the Majority Caucus already had the necessary leadership structures in place and expressed confidence that Mr Agalga would effectively steer government business in the House.

He also commended the new Majority Leader for his legal expertise, communication skills and extensive parliamentary experience.

Mr Agalga, on his part, has acknowledged the demanding nature of his new assignment but expressed confidence in his ability to deliver.

In an exclusive interview with TV3, he said his years in Parliament had equipped him with the experience needed for the role and assured Ghanaians that he would not disappoint them.

He cited his eight-year tenure as Ranking Member of the Defence and Interior Committee, during which he scrutinised the work of then-Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul, as part of the experience he brings to his new position.

Mr Agalga’s appointment followed the nomination of former Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga as Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
