Parliament has adopted a report by an Ad Hoc Committee recommending the appointment of an independent auditor to examine the financial accounts of the Auditor-General’s Office.
The recommendation is anchored in Article 187 of the 1992 Constitution, which requires Parliament to appoint an auditor to audit and report on the accounts of the Auditor-General’s Office.
The report was approved on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, during Parliament’s first sitting following its recess.
The proposed audit is intended to strengthen independent oversight of the Auditor-General’s Office by ensuring that its financial records are subjected to external examination.
It is also expected to reinforce institutional accountability and checks and balances while boosting public confidence in the financial management of the office.
Parliament has not yet named an individual for the assignment but is expected to begin the selection process in accordance with the constitutional requirement.
