Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has dismissed speculation about her alleged ambition to become the next flagbearer of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
She says the government's priority is to fulfil the mandate given to it by Ghanaians.
According to the Vice President, discussions about future presidential ambitions are premature because that the administration remains focused on implementing its campaign promises and addressing the country's challenges.
Speaking on The KSM Show, published on YouTube, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said the NDC must not allow itself to be distracted by internal succession debates when it has been entrusted with governing the country.
"They didn't vote for us today to be talking about who is going or not going. They said we should come and solve the problems. We have an agenda. What we inherited was a very, very tough situation. We have work to do," she said.
The Vice President recounted the extensive consultations that went into developing the NDC's 2024 manifesto, noting that party members and volunteers from across the country made sacrifices to contribute ideas towards resetting Ghana.
She said the overwhelming electoral victory placed a responsibility on the government to deliver results rather than engage in conversations about future leadership.
She stressed that the success of the administration would depend on the support given to President John Dramani Mahama and the collective commitment of government officials to achieve the party's development agenda.
"If you are already going left and right and centre, and it's not even time, I think it's a betrayal of the cause of the people, and I don't think it is right. So please help us to fulfil the dreams of this beautiful country that we know can do much better... Let us focus on getting the job done," Prof. Opoku-Agyemang stated.
She added that her personal priority is to remain focused on nation-building and supporting the President to deliver on the government's promises, rather than entertaining speculation about future political ambitions.
