Alagumgube Association marks two years of advocacy, diaspora unity, Upper East development drive in USA

The Alagumgube Association, an Upper East Region development advocacy group, is set to celebrate its second anniversary in the United States with a series of activities highlighting its commitment to cultural preservation, unity, and development advocacy.

The anniversary celebration, scheduled for August 21 and 22, 2026, in New Jersey, USA, is expected to bring together members of the association, traditional leaders, musicians and stakeholders from the Upper East Region and the diaspora.

Alagumgube Association, which represents Farefari-speaking communities, including people from the Bolgatanga, Bongo, Nangodi, Tongo, and Nikaare areas, has positioned itself as a platform to promote cultural identity while supporting social and economic development initiatives.

The founder of Alagumgube Association, Gabriel Agambila, said the anniversary celebration is not only a milestone for the organisation but also an opportunity to renew the group’s commitment to championing development in the Upper East Region.

"Our journey over the past two years has been about unity, service and creating a strong voice for our people. We believe development is a collective responsibility, and Alagumgube will continue to mobilise resources, ideas and partnerships to support our communities," Mr Agambila said.

He added that the association’s focus remains on preserving the cultural heritage of the people while creating opportunities for development partnerships between the diaspora and communities back home.

The African Chairman of Alagumgube Association, Richard Abanga, said the group’s growth demonstrates the power of collective action among people of Upper East origin living abroad.

"Alagumgube is more than an association; it is a movement built on unity, cultural pride and a shared vision for the progress of our region. We want our anniversary to inspire more people to contribute meaningfully to development," he said.

Global Chairman of the association, Dr. Francis Maltiby, noted that the organisation has recorded significant achievements within its short period of existence, including community support initiatives and advocacy on issues affecting the region.

"We are proud of the impact we have made so far, but we believe there is more to do. The future of Upper East requires collaboration between traditional leaders, professionals, the diaspora and local communities," the member stated.

The anniversary programme will also feature participation from some chiefs and musicians from the Upper East Region, who are expected to join the celebration in the United States.

Over the past two years, Alagumgube has engaged in several development-related activities, including support for communities and advocacy on major regional issues. The association has also been involved in calls for the development of an airport project in the Upper East Region, including clearing portions of the proposed site to draw attention to the long-standing project.
