GES condemns assault on Obuasi SHTS headmaster, vows sanctions against students

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has strongly condemned the assault on the Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Mr Abdulai Zakaria, describing the incident as a serious act of indiscipline that will not be tolerated.

In a statement signed by the Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, the Service said the headmaster sustained injuries after he was attacked by a group of students.

"The incident, which resulted in injuries to the Headmaster, is deeply regrettable and completely unacceptable. Violence, intimidation, and acts of indiscipline have no place in our schools," the statement said.

GES disclosed that it has launched investigations into the incident in collaboration with the security agencies to establish the full circumstances surrounding the attack.

The Service warned that any individual found to have participated in or instigated the assault would face appropriate disciplinary and legal action in accordance with the law and the GES Code of Conduct.

It also urged students to channel their concerns through the appropriate grievance procedures rather than resorting to violence or other unlawful conduct.

GES further appealed to parents, guardians, community leaders and other stakeholders in the education sector to support efforts aimed at promoting discipline, respect for authority and peaceful coexistence in schools.

The Service reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that schools remain safe environments for teaching and learning while upholding discipline across educational institutions.
