In a major step toward delivering Cape Coast's first AstroTurf facility, the much-anticipated carpet for the 'Obiara Ka Ho' Soccer Centre in the Cape Coast North Constituency has finally arrived.
The carpet arrived on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, and was received by Mr. James Nunoo, the aspiring National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Officer for the Central Region. Once laid, the park is expected to significantly boost football talent development in the metropolis.
Speaking to journalists, an elated Mr. Nunoo expressed his gratitude to the Member of Parliament, Dr. Kwamena Minta Nyarku, for fulfilling his promise to complete the park ahead of the Cape Coast festival. "I am delighted not only to receive the carpet on behalf of the MP but also because it demonstrates his steadfast commitment to the people," he said.
Mr. Nunoo further noted that Dr. Nyarku, a sports enthusiast, was resolute in completing the project, which is designed to serve as a training hub for grooming emerging football talents.
The transformation of the 'Obiara Ka Ho' Soccer Centre into a modern AstroTurf park was a key campaign promise made by Dr. Kwamena Minta Nyarku—popularly known as Ragga—during his first term as MP. Although the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government pledged to build an AstroTurf in every constituency nationwide, Cape Coast did not receive one during his first tenure (2021–2025).
Undeterred, Ragga renewed his pledge to deliver the project in his second term. Skeptics questioned his capacity and commitment, with many attributing the initial delays to political deception.
However, according to information from Dr. Nyarku's office, the project underwent major redesigns and expansions. Notably, the entire drainage system had to be reconstructed to ensure the facility's long-term integrity once completed.
As the completion of the 'Obiara Ka Ho' Soccer Centre draws near, many constituents have expressed profound appreciation for their MP's efforts. The park's potential contribution to the development of sports—particularly football—cannot be overstated.
