Appeal Sedina Tamakloe's acquittal if you want to protect your legacy — Brako-Powers tells AG

Legal practitioner Austin Brako-Powers has urged Attorney-General Dr Dominic Ayine to appeal the Court of Appeal's decision acquitting and discharging former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) Chief Executive Officer, Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu.

According to him, pursuing an appeal to the Supreme Court would help secure a final determination on the case and protect the Attorney-General's record in office.

Mr Brako-Powers made the remarks during an interview on Accra-based TV3 on Thursday, July 30, following the Court of Appeal's decision to overturn Ms Tamakloe-Attionu's conviction after ruling that the prosecution had failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.

"If the Attorney-General wants to protect his work and his own record, he should appeal against this decision so that we can have the Supreme Court have a final verdict," he said.

The legal practitioner said he does see the possibility of the Attorney-General challenging the ruling, claiming the state would likely accept the Court of Appeal's decision.

He further alleged that the government's handling of other criminal cases involving its appointees suggests it is unlikely to pursue an appeal in the Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu case.

Ms Tamakloe-Attionu was convicted in absentia by the Accra High Court in April 2024 on charges including causing financial loss to the state, stealing, money laundering and procurement-related offences.

She was later extradited from the United States and returned to Ghana on June 9, 2026, to begin serving a 10-year prison sentence before successfully appealing the decision.
