NPP to communicate position on Sedina Tamakloe's 'shocking' acquittal in due course — Koduah

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) says it will communicate its official position on the Court of Appeal's decision acquitting and discharging former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, in due course.

The announcement follows Thursday's ruling by the Court of Appeal, which overturned Ms Tamakloe-Attionu's conviction after holding that the prosecution failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.

Ms Tamakloe-Attionu had been convicted in absentia by the Accra High Court in April 2024 on charges including causing financial loss to the state, stealing, money laundering and procurement-related offences.

She later appealed the conviction, which was subsequently quashed by the appellate court.

Reacting to the ruling in a social media post on Thursday, July 30, NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Koduah described the decision as shocking.

"The New Patriotic Party has followed with keen interest the rather shocking ruling of the Court of Appeal in the matter involving former MASLOC CEO, Madam Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu.

"The Party will, in due course, communicate its official position on the ruling," wrote the opposition party's chef scribe.

The Court of Appeal's decision brings to an end, for now, the criminal proceedings against the former MASLOC CEO.

However, the Office of the Attorney-General has since announced that it will appeal the ruling at the Supreme Court and will file an application for a stay of execution pending the determination of the appeal.
