The National Organiser of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, says the government's handling of former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) Chief Executive Officer Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu's case undermines its anti-corruption initiative, Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL).
He spoke in an exclusive interview with Class News' Prince Benjamin (PB).
Reacting to the Court of Appeal's decision to acquit and discharge Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, Nana Boakye argued that the government's approach was inconsistent with its stated commitment to fighting corruption.
"This relaxed attitude towards Sedina Tamakloe's case makes nonsense of the ORAL issue," he said.
He contended that it was contradictory for the government to claim it was pursuing corruption cases while, in his view, failing to mount a strong defence in Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu's appeal.
"You're in court saying that you're fighting corruption and this is a lady who was in charge of MASLOC and we are aware of the facts [against her] and instead of you to put in a strong defence, you put in a very weak defence, the person is now acquitted and discharged, and you turn around to say you're fighting other corruption case on the other hand. It is laughable," he said.
Nana Boakye maintained that the outcome of the appeal had been predetermined.
"This whole Sedina Tamakloe thing is well choreographed to free her. Nothing more, nothing less," he said.
The Court of Appeal on Thursday acquitted and discharged Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, overturning her conviction and 10-year prison sentence after ruling that the prosecution had failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.
