Suspected armed robbery attempt foiled after dramatic chase ends in crash at Tema Community 5

A suspected armed robbery attempt ended dramatically on Wednesday afternoon at Tema Community 5 after a getaway vehicle crashed into a tree during a high-speed chase, leading to the arrest of one suspect while several others escaped.

According to information gathered, the incident occurred near the Ship House area after a complainant, who requested to remain anonymous, withdrew a large sum of money from a bank located near Meridian Bank.

Shortly after leaving the banking premises, an armed man allegedly confronted the victim, snatched the cash, and fled in a waiting Toyota RAV4 believed to have been used as the getaway vehicle.

Eyewitnesses said the suspects sped off towards Tema Community 5, with another vehicle, reportedly a BMW, pursuing them in an attempt to stop their escape.

The chase came to an abrupt end when the driver of the Toyota RAV4, reportedly carrying foreign nationals, took a wrong turn due to unfamiliarity with the Tema road network. The vehicle subsequently crashed into a tree near the Ship House area.

Following the crash, one of the suspects was apprehended by members of the public. The arrested individual was reportedly wearing a blue top at the time of his arrest.

However, the remaining suspects managed to escape. Witnesses claimed one of the fleeing suspects boarded a nearby taxi, while others allegedly changed their clothes before fleeing on foot. The stolen money is also believed to have been taken away by the escaping suspects.

Police officers later arrived at the scene to restore order and begin investigations into the incident.
