NPP inaugurates nine-member committee to oversee September 19 national executive elections

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has inaugurated a nine-member National Elections Committee to supervise preparations for its upcoming National Delegates Conference scheduled for September 19.

The committee was inaugurated by the Acting National Chairman, Chairman Butey, as part of efforts to ensure a credible and transparent process for the election of national officers.

The conference is expected to elect new national executives and consider constitutional matters aimed at strengthening the party’s internal democratic processes.

According to a statement issued by the Office of the Acting National Chairman on Wednesday, July 29, the committee will be chaired by former Suhum MP Frederick Opare-Ansah, while former Deputy Finance Minister Abena Osei Asare will serve as Secretary.

“The Committee will be chaired by Hon. Frederick Opare-Ansah, with Hon. Abena Osei Asare serving as the Secretary," it read in part.

The statement explained that the committee had been tasked with planning, organizing, and supervising all activities leading to the National Conference, including the conduct of the elections for national officers.

“The mandate of the committee among other things is to plan, organise and superintend over the processes leading to the National Conference for the election of National Officers of the Party as well as the conduct of the elections," it noted.

Other members of the committee are Evans Nimako, Oboshie Sai Cofie, Anthony Abayifa Karbo, Salam Ama Appianin Damata, Eric Ntori, and Frank Davies.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman is also expected to join the committee after the conclusion of the party’s Ashanti Regional Elections.

The NPP expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to discharge its responsibilities with “integrity, fairness, transparency, and professionalism in the best interest of the New Patriotic Party.”

The inauguration follows the party’s decision to hold its National Delegates Conference on Saturday, September 19, a date approved by the National Executive Committee and later endorsed by the National Council at meetings held on June 25.

In a separate statement issued on July 8, General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong announced that the conference would elect national officers pursuant to Article 10(1) of the party’s constitution.
