Several injured as yam-loaded truck crashes into VIP bus at Osino

Several passengers were injured after a Kia truck loaded with yams collided with a VIP bus at Osino in the Fanteakwa South District of the Eastern Region in the early hours of Wednesday, July 22, 2026.

The accident occurred at about 4:30 a.m. near the entrance to the Osino Clinic, close to the Misa Filling Station, along the busy Kumasi-Accra Highway.

Preliminary reports indicate that the Kia truck was travelling from the Northern Region to Accra when its driver allegedly dozed off, causing the vehicle to veer into the lane of the oncoming VIP bus.

In an effort to avoid a direct head-on collision, the driver of the VIP bus reportedly swerved off the highway and into the Misa Filling Station. Despite the evasive manoeuvre, the truck crashed into the bus.

No deaths had been recorded at the time this report was filed.

Several passengers on board the VIP bus sustained various injuries, including head injuries, bruises and other bodily injuries.

The driver of the Kia truck reportedly regained consciousness after the impact and managed to climb out of the wreckage.

Some of the injured were treated at the Osino Clinic, while others with more serious injuries were referred to the Osiem Hawa Memorial Hospital for further medical attention. Passengers who escaped unhurt or sustained only minor injuries remained at the scene awaiting alternative transport to continue their journeys.

Officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the Ghana Police Service responded promptly to the scene, directing traffic and clearing yams that had spilled onto the highway to restore the free flow of vehicles.

Authorities are yet to determine the full extent of the damage and injuries, while investigations have commenced to establish the circumstances leading to the crash.
