Mahama, former Presidents, dignitaries to attend Apostle Kwadwo Safo's funeral

The family of the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo has announced that preparations for his burial and funeral rites are in their final stages, saying it is united with the leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission in giving the renowned spiritual leader, industrialist, inventor, technologist, farmer and philanthropist a befitting farewell.

In a statement, the family said any initial differences over succession issues had been resolved, allowing members to focus on celebrating the life and legacy of one of Ghana's most accomplished innovators and nation-builders.

According to the statement, the burial ceremony will take place on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at the Kantanka Automobile Manufacturing Centre at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region, the industrial complex established by Apostle Kwadwo Safo to advance his vision of a wholly Ghanaian automobile manufacturing industry.

The family said the burial venue was chosen in line with the late Apostle's final wishes. In keeping with his testament, a memorial edifice has been constructed within the manufacturing centre to preserve his legacy for future generations.

The memorial will display his personal belongings, including his clothing, footwear, tools, inventions, prototypes and selected works, creating a permanent exhibition of his achievements in science, technology and industry.

The national funeral service will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026, at the Black Star Square (Independence Square) in Accra, where thousands of mourners from Ghana and abroad are expected to pay their final respects.

The family said the ceremony is expected to attract a large number of dignitaries from the political, traditional, religious, diplomatic and business communities.

President John Dramani Mahama is expected to lead the nation's tribute alongside the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, ministers of state and other senior government officials.

Former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo have also indicated their intention to attend the funeral. Former Vice-President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, as well as national executives of both the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), are also expected to be present.

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, together with Members of Parliament from both the Majority and Minority caucuses, will also attend the funeral.

The family further disclosed that Parliament will honour the late Apostle with a statement on the floor of the House, during which lawmakers from both sides are expected to pay tribute to his contributions to Ghana's industrial, scientific and technological development.

As part of the parliamentary tribute, Parliament TV will air a special documentary throughout the week highlighting the life, inventions and achievements of Apostle Kwadwo Safo.

The funeral activities will conclude with a Thanksgiving Service on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi.

The family described Apostle Kwadwo Safo as a visionary whose legacy of innovation, self-reliance, industrialisation and service to humanity will continue to inspire future generations.

It noted that through his pioneering work in automobile manufacturing, engineering, agriculture, education, science and technology, he demonstrated that Africans possess the creativity, knowledge and capability to drive their own development and solve the continent's challenges.
