The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has scheduled Saturday, September 19, 2026, for its national delegates conference to elect national officers and consider proposed amendments to the party’s constitution.
The conference, which will take place in Kumasi, forms a major pillar of the party’s internal reorganisation as it prepares for the 2028 general election. Delegates from all 16 regions are expected to attend.
A statement signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong said the decision was taken by the National Executive Committee (NEC) and later approved by the National Council at separate meetings held on June 25, 2026.
Constitutional review opens
Ahead of the conference, the General Secretary—acting under Article 19(2) of the party’s constitution—has invited members and stakeholders to submit proposals for constitutional amendments.
All proposed amendments must be submitted to the Office of the General Secretary or sent electronically via the designated email address by Friday, July 17, 2026.
The statement explained that the review process will allow members to contribute ideas aimed at strengthening party structures, deepening internal democracy and enhancing effective governance.
“As the party prepares for its National Delegates Conference, it remains committed to constitutionalism, internal democracy, and the rule of law,” the statement added.
Key phase of NPP reorganisation
The September 19 conference is expected to complete a major phase of the NPP’s internal restructuring following its defeat in the 2024 general election. The election of national officers will usher in a new leadership to steer the party into the next electoral cycle.
Delegates will also consider constitutional amendments that could shape the party’s organisational and electoral processes ahead of 2028.
Roadmap to 2028
The NPP has been implementing a structured roadmap for its internal elections. Polling station and electoral area elections have already been held, with constituency elections scheduled for July 11, 2026, and regional elections to follow.
After the national officers are elected in September, the party is expected to shift focus to intensified nationwide mobilisation and campaign preparations.
